The “snd Editor” file included with this document contains a snd resource editor for ResEdit. (Actually, it only displays everything within the resource.) As there is no way of displaying the insides of a sound resource with ResEdit, it is obviously a major improvement upon the hex editor.
Because you can’t edit sounds with it, the editor can mostly be used only to look at previously created sound resources, although you could use it to increase the speed of creating a new one.
To install it, open up the “snd Editor” file with ResEdit and copy everything in it. Open ResEdit itself and paste the resources in it. If you are asked if you wish to overwrite something in ResEdit (you shouldn't be), choose not to and don't expect the editor to work correctly (sorry).
When you open up a snd resource with this editor, a window will appear that will have either one or two panes depending upon its format. If it format one, it will have a top pane that contains a list of any synthesizers or modifiers accessed by the sound. Both format one and two sounds also have a scrolling pane with a list of every command within the sound. For some commands, such as noteCmd, the parameters are displayed in special formats. Otherwise, the parameters are simply displayed as decimal numbers.
There are some obvious improvements that could to made on this, but for as much as I use sounds, I don’t have the time to do it without someone else wanting it too. If you feel there are some things that could be improved, have some more ideas for pickers or editors, bug reports (gasp!), etc., just send me some sort of mail (Email included) telling me what you think about it. Even if you think it's just fine the way it is, or even if you hate it, send me something.
